Sister Wives Recap: Party People

So now that Kody Brown has adopted wife Robyn’s three children from a previous marriage, what will be the focus of Sister Wives going forward? Oh, I know! Let’s send the kids to spend a few weeks with their biological father! Robyn is concerned about the trip, and she hopes they have a positive experience. Dayton and her two daughters are very excited, although they admit they haven’t seen their biological father for two years. Kody reveals that in the past when the three have been to visit him before, they come back a bit different…a tad detached from the Brown family. It’s a good thing Kody and Robyn made sure they were Browns before leaving.

Since the adoption hype is over, the Browns fall back on their regular party planning plot. They are hoping to throw an adoption soiree to celebrate the three newest Browns. Kody is meeting with his wives, and Meri questions the food being served. He wants barbecue, but Robyn wants something more along the lines of Sunday dinner. Janelle nods her head in approval to pretend she’s paying attention, and Christine giggles wide-eyed at everything discussed like she’s watching a ping pong tournament. Her meds are great! Kody interrupts to say he’s getting chicken wings and meat, but Robyn attacks. She has white linens and floral arrangements–this isn’t going to be a cook-out. Kody hasn’t placed the order yet, but Robyn is won’t listen. She lays into Kody as her fellow wives join her in ganging up against him. Christine loves the camaraderie of the wives in an alliance against Kody. He urges them to get their panties out of a wad, and Janelle gives Robyn an mental high five for jumping all over him for that comment too.

Kody wants to do something memorable for his three newest children, so he enlists Robyn to pick out pictures of them for a very special plague. As he pores over baby pictures, he gets emotional as he can’t pick which child is in which pictures. There was a lot of their life that he wasn’t around, and he now realizes just how much time he’s missed. Not to be one-upped, Christine has decided to have a cement slab laid in her backyard for the adoption party so that the family can place their hand prints. She is giddy and jumpy and screaming with joy over the idea. Meanwhile, Robyn realizes that Kody is upset about missing time with her kids. She’s enlisting a portrait artist to create a picture that incorporates her children when they were younger with Kody.

Robyn’s three kids had the best time visiting their biological dad, but they are happy to be back with their family. Kody and Robyn have planned the party a few days out so they can acclimate back to the cul-de-sac compound. Janelle isn’t big on party planning, but she’d like to participate by contributing a cake from a local bakery that specializes in over-the-top creations. Across town, Kody is picking up the three plaques. He wanted to make them as nice and expensive as possible, because the Browns love to spend money. The following day, the family is joining together as concrete is poured in Christine’s back yard. They have twenty minutes to get everyone’s hand print and name in the cement before it dries. Kody is yelling and lording over the crew as the concrete dries faster than expected. Shockingly, they are able to get everyone’s hands in the cement before it dries completely.

The day of the party, Janelle’s cake is delivered, and it’s not quite what I expected. She seems happier than normal, and I hope it’s because she’s secretly planning her getaway. Maybe she’s just stealing Christine’s happy pills. Robyn’s kids have gotten gifts for Kody and Meri. Kody’s gift is a watch from his favorite brand inscribed with “Daddy” and the date of the adoption. For Meri, the kids chose a three diamond necklace, with each diamond representing an adopted child. Dayton also shares that the diamonds could represent past, present, and future. Aurora wants to thank Meri for legally divorcing Kody so he could marry their mother and adopt them.

Meri is lurking around the kitchen, doing food prep with her mother for the party while sharing her mysterious personal and health stress with her new biffles…the production crew. The afternoon, sixty people are crammed into Robyn’s house to celebrate the adoption, and of course, Kody has to be the center of attention. He blesses each of the three children with other family members as he did for his other children at birth. Robyn clicking pictures on her phone. When Kody presents the plaques, Breanna breaks down in tears which is a rare show of emotions. When Kody receives his watch, he’s a bit blasse. He reminds the cameras that it’s the thought that counts…not the watch quality or the brand…though both are amazing. The only one less emotional about her gift is Meri. Oh, thanks. Of course, Robyn is showing enough emotion for everyone when she presents Kody with the portrait of a younger version of himself with the kids as babies. She’s created a moment that didn’t exist, but does now. Janelle thinks it’s a cool gesture, and Meri agrees. After dinner, Christine leads the large crew across the street to do a toast in her backyard by the cement hand prints. And thus ends another Brown fiesta…
