Cheryl Burke Thinks The Dance Moms Girls Are Traumatized From Working With Abby Lee Miller

As much as I love the girls on Dance Moms, I really watched the show for Abby Lee Miller’s ridiculous antics. Sure the moms argued a lot about who was raising the biggest star, but Abby really made the show. However, if I were a dancer or dance mom I would actually be relieved that Abby was replaced by Cheryl Burke.

Cheryl seems to be a lot more rational and kind than Abby ever has been, but then again aren’t we all? I have no idea how entertaining the show will be in Abby’s absence, but apparently Cheryl has a lot to overcome as the new coach of ALDC- or whatever moniker the team is going by during this post-Abby era.

According to an article from E! Online, Cheryl has a lot of work to do. Aside from coaching the girls and (hopefully) winning some dance competitions, she has to handle the moms. Cheryl explained, “I’m coaching these girls. I come from the original dance mom, so I kind of know how to handle these moms. But it is a lot. I want the girls to have a positive experience coming out of this show.”

The dancers have a ton of followers on Instagram and Twitter, plus they are making a lot of money – or at least I assume that they are. So it is a somewhat positive experience, minus getting berated by Abby for years.

And that’s really the biggest issue Cheryl seems to have right now: cleaning up Abby’s mess. She shared, “A lot of the girls I feel have been traumatized by the past and I just want them to know it’s all about positive reinforcement, but I am still strict.”

That sounds like a definite improvement for the girls. For the show? I guess we will see. But yeah, I imagine that being yelled at and then ranked based on an inexplicable combination of dance ability, their mothers’ behavior, and Abby‘s blatant favoritism has to be pretty scarring.

I don’t know how Cheryl’s version of discipline will play out on TV, but the competitive moms still have what it takes to make a dramatic show, or at least I hope so. Cheryl insisted, “I’m not going to let anything swing by, but it’s been a roller coaster ride in such a short amount of time to be honest.”
