Brooke Burke Was Tempted To Have ‘Love Affair’ With Derek Hough on DWTS if She Was Single

Anyone who’s ever watched Dancing with the Stars has observed the sexual tension in some of the routines. Recently, former competitor Brooke Burke commented on that tension and how palpable it truly is.

In the show’s history, Brooke is known for having won Season 7, as well as hosting Seasons 10 through 17. She was partnered with Derek Hough during her winning season. Derek is, of course, one of the show’s most famous pros, further known for being easy on the eyes.

Brooke recently appeared on Cheryl Burke’s podcast where she discussed her time on DWTS as a contestant. She admitted that for her, things were even steamier than they appeared on screen.

Brooke said DWTS was more intimate than “making love”

Brooke confessed, “Had I not been married … I would have actually hoped we would have had a love affair.” She explained, “You are intertwined with someone’s body when you’re a dancer. There is no way that I have ever been so connected — besides with a lover or a husband — than I was with Derek.”

She remembered rehearsing every day for three months. “So, for three months, you are in someone’s arms. Why do you think people fall in love?” As for Derek’s coaching style, she said, “He was really tough, he was really hard on me. I’m OK with tough love. He did not love me through routines and support me and tell me that it was amazing. He was brutally honest.”

Of the intimacy, Brooke said, “It can be more intimate than making love in a bedroom … you feel more connected. If you have energy, you’re doing this dance and you’re in the rhythm, and then there’s trust, then you’re sharing fear, you’re doing something you’ve never done. How many times do you go through an experience with someone where they’re all you’ve got?”

Dancing with the Stars continues Tuesday nights on ABC and Disney+.
