Carl Radke ‘Demanded’ Engagement Ring From Lindsay Hubbard

Summer House star Lindsay Hubbard visited Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on March 8. Andy was full of questions about her split with Carl Radke.

Lindsay told Andy she hasn’t spoken to her ex-fiancé “face-to-face” since “three weeks after the breakup.” Even though she hasn’t seen him, he’s still paying half of the $13,000-a-month rent on their “Radhouse” NYC apartment. That’s a lot of money to shell out for a place you don’t live in anymore.

“We re-signed our lease a month before he broke up,” she said. “That’s something that should have been thought through, and it wasn’t. That’s not a ‘me’ problem.” Yikes. That’s cold.

Carl signed a contract

“Wow,” Andy responded. “How psyched are you to be living in that great place if he’s paying half the rent?”

“Here’s the thing,” Lindsay continued. “When everything went down … I’m in survival mode. I’m not gonna try to figure out where I’m gonna live at that point in time.” Millions of women have done it before you, honey.

Andy wants to know if Carl quickly agreed to pay half the rent even though he no longer lives there. I think he just wanted out of the relationship, even if he had to pay for it. That’s a lot of alimony, dude, and you weren’t even married.

“Um, he’s on the lease,” Lindsay says. “[It’s] a legally binding contract where he owes half the rent.”

“Have you started dating again?” Andy asked.

“I have,” she said, which Andy meets with approval. Jeez Louise, she’s still complaining about Carl, yet she’s already moved on to her next victim.

What happened to Carl’s engagement ring?

“Did you keep the ring?” Andy asked.

“He demanded it back,” she confessed.

“Oh, really,” Andy responded, seeming surprised. “How did you feel about that?”

“Um, there’s … New York law, and then there’s etiquette,” Lindsay explained. “The law in New York [views an engagement ring as] a contingency gift, contingent upon there being a wedding and a marriage. If there is no wedding … then the gift belongs to the giver, so legally the ring belongs to him … He emailed me and demanded it back.”

That seems fair. An engagement ring is an expensive investment, and he’s still paying her $6,500 a month for half the rent. Why shouldn’t he be able to sell it and recoup some of his investment? It’s not like he cheated on her. He just came to his senses and knew their relationship wasn’t healthy.

Then Andy asked her, “If you had to assign a percentage for who was at fault for the breakup, what would it be?”

While Lindsay graciously acknowledges the validity of Carl’s feelings, “The way he went about it was just so messed up in my mind at the level of relationship that we had.”

Summer House continues Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
