Can 90 Day Fiancé Be Saved?

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has been struggling for a minute, with viewers having mostly negative feedback on the last few seasons. In my opinion, the downward spiral began with 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 4. The cast was pretty unbearable, and only one of the couples is still confirmed to be together today.

90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days Season 6 was not much better. It received just as much criticism from fans. Recently, 90 Day Fiancé Season 10 is airing alongside 90 Day: The Single Life Season 4. Neither of these seasons has been particularly interesting either, which seriously puts the franchise in danger.

On a more positive note, there are several things TLC can do to redeem itself. While it will not be easy to save 90 Day Fiancé, it can certainly be done.

Happily Ever After? Season 8 Needs To Be Great

It is confirmed that 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 8 will be the next season to air, and there’s a lot riding on it. Happily Ever After? Season 8 will need to redeem the franchise after the last few awful seasons. However, that should not be too hard.

Happily Ever After? is one of the most popular spin-offs, and Season 7 was relatively well received. The great thing about Happily Ever After? is that fans are already familiar with the cast, as they have all been featured on a 90 Day show beforehand. This gives Happily Ever After? an advantage over other spin-offs where viewers have to get to know the majority of cast members from scratch.

The list of couples cast for Season 8 gives us hope, as it’s mainly couples fans want to see. There are one or two problematic couples mixed in for drama, but that might not be a bad thing.

The Other Way Season 5 Was Not Bad At All

While The Other Way Season 5 was not perfect, it was miles better than any of the other recent seasons. Viewers were shocked when The Other Way Season 5 was announced merely weeks after Season 4 wrapped up. TLC had never done anything like this with the franchise before, so it was pretty obvious that they were trying to make up for terrible Season 4. And it worked!

As always, there were a few insufferable couples, but even they were pretty interesting to watch. Brandan DeNuccio and Mary Demasu-ay annoyed a lot of fans, but it was nonetheless intriguing to watch their story play out. Season 5 also made the smart decision to bring back fan favorites Kenneth Niedermeier and Armando Rubio, whom viewers always love to see!

The Other Way Season 5 is proof that 90 Day Fiancé can still pull out some great seasons. One of the best things about Season 5 was the success rate, which some other recent seasons have been lacking. Furthermore, a lot of the Americans on Season 5 actually moved abroad and stayed true to the spin-offs concept, which no one on Season 4 successfully did.

TLC Needs To Stop Repeating Storylines & Casting Boring Couples

One of the most frustrating things about the last few seasons is that storylines are being repeated left and right. Infamous cast members Gino Palazzolo and Jasmine Pineda recently ended their third season but are still dealing with the same petty drama. This is tedious for viewers, as no one wants to watch the same fights play out over and over.

TLC has also been casting particularly boring couples as of late, which is almost even worse. While it is frustrating to watch pointless drama, it is even more difficult to watch people with absolutely zero personality. Season 10 is particularly guilty of this, as over half of the season’s couples are dry and just not worth rooting for.

If TLC wants to save the franchise, they need to improve upon their casting. They need to look for fresh and unique couples with interesting stories, which fans have not seen before. Even if a storyline is somewhat similar to another couple’s in the past, it would be better if they at least had some personality. TLC has been severely lacking on both of these grounds as of late, which could cost them the franchise if they continue.
