Love Is Blind’s Stephen Richardson Addresses Sexting Scandal

So, things aren’t looking great odds-wise for the pod couples on the new season of Love Is Blind. Stephen Richardson and Monica Davis are the second couple to split after getting engaged thanks to an ill-advised sleep test, alcohol, and Richard sexting — a woman that wasn’t Monica.

In the latest episodes of Season 7, fans were shocked (some not so shocked) to discover that Stephen was sexting another woman. It happened when he went off to do a sleep test and may have had a little too much to drink. Although, honestly, being inebriated was never a good enough excuse to sext someone other than your fiancée.

Love Is Blind Season 7 saw a controversial sexting scandal involving Stephen Richardson

The confrontation ended with Stephen apologizing, Monica crying, and the two breaking up. Ironically, in the pods, Stephen had confessed to doing something similar in a past relationship. He was trying to be honest with Monica about his past and she took it as a step forward. Turns out it was more prophetic than she thought. And honestly, even our earlier predictions for this couple weren’t great.

“I can’t do anything to change this, I will live with this,” Stephen said before leaving their apartment. “I truly am sorry for hurting you, for wasting your time, for coming on the show and doing this to you, I shouldn’t have come on the show.”

Damn straight he shouldn’t have looked to get engaged if he was still texting other women. And in the aftermath, he spoke to PEOPLE and joked, “It is probably smart to put a password on your phone.” No, it’s probably smart not to cheat in general, but c’est la vie.

“In all seriousness, the main things are self-talk, self-reflection, and a lot of the things I that I believe I said in the pods, where it’s like you don’t know if you’re fully healed until your next relationship,” he said.

He admitted to realizing that he didn’t quite have his issues under wraps as he thought he did and more reflection and even therapy might be needed. He doesn’t think he may have realized this if not for how things played out.

“I need to do something to fix it,” he concluded. “And that’s essentially what this whole year has been for me.”

Nothing was fake

He added that he didn’t fake anything and really did want to marry Monica. But honestly, if you want to marry someone, you probably won’t be sexting all night (until the next day) another woman about fetishes and other sexual plans.

Stephen attempted to reason by saying he only texted after a conversation he had with Monica. This was the wrong move though because Monica came back strong.

“Don’t you f*cking blame me at all for you being gross,” she said vehemently. “I’m almost embarrassed about how much of my heart I’ve given you. You were gonna shake my dad’s hand this weekend? While you were planning on cheating?”

So another one bites the dust yet again. This isn’t to say all Love Is Blind couples are doomed. Some have crossed the finish line. But, arguably, the odds aren’t always high.

Moving forward, Stephen claims he’s using this moment as a learning experience. I guess only time will tell if a leopard can truly change his spots though. One thing’s for sure, whoever dates him next should be highly suspicious if his phone has a password!

Love Is Blind Season 7, Episodes 1-9 are now streaming on Netflix. Episodes 10-11 will drop on October 16.
