Russell Brand, former reality TV host and actor, has been charged with rape and sexual assault. The Metropolitan Police Service issued a charge and requisition to the 50-year-old in connection to the offences of one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.
How Russell Brand’s rape and sexual assault charges came together

Detectives started investigating Russell in September 2023, after Channel 4’s Dispatches, and a report by The Sunday Times, spurred on a number of allegations.
It’s alleged a woman was raped in 1999 in Bournemouth. Another woman was indecently assaulted in 2001 in Westminster, London. A third woman was orally raped and sexually assaulted in Westminster, London, in 2004. Finally, a fourth woman was sexually assaulted in Westminster, London, between 2004 and 2005.
Russell is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 2. The Crown Prosecution Service authorized charges to be brought against Russell for these alleged sexual offences.
“We carefully reviewed the evidence after a police investigation into allegations made following the broadcast of a Channel 4 documentary in September 2023,” said Jaswant Narwal of the CPS. “We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with offences including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault.”
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy from the Met Police, who’s leading the investigation, added: “The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”
He continued: “The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at [email protected]. Support is also available by contacting the independent charity, Rape Crisis at 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
