Let’s be honest: Jax Taylor has never been the number one guy on any show he has been on. But he has always been the Bravoleb you loved to hate. However, Season 2 of The Valley is showcasing a deeper, darker side to him that is really hard to root for. After taking a step back, I think the cast and crew are carrying on just fine without Jax at the helm.
Jax Taylor has lost his followers after The Valley behavior
It almost feels like Jax will never learn from his mistakes. Season 2 premiered with a bang as Brittany Cartwright offered insight into her toxic relationship. The former SUR bartender always makes sure he paints his own narrative. And in the premiere episode, he did just that. When asked how his separation was going, he told producers, “It’s not going well. She’s in a rental, and we’re allowed to date other people. I mean, it’s so toxic. It’s so broken.” Jax went on to claim he really wanted to work on his marriage. But his actions spoke louder than words. Brittany opened up, adding, “I thought that we might be heading in the right direction and be able to work on our marriage, but then all hell broke loose. That completely changed everything.”
Jax has always been known for his anger issues. But between the rage texts and manipulation, B has had enough for a lifetime. The Valley fans were shocked to learn that he became physically aggressive. Brittany revealed, “He flipped the coffee table, and it hit my knee. It turned black immediately. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ I’m like, screaming, crying. It was terrifying.”
The Valley Season 2 is a hit, and it’s because the cast is incredible
Jax aside, The Valley cast understood their mission and are outperforming every single week. I’ve said it from the first season, Jesse Lally is the real star. The man just doesn’t know when to stop, and he’s delivering some iconic scenes. His divorce from Michelle Saniei is messy. And Jesse keeps playing into it by acting out or mentioning certain things that he knows will rile his soon-to-be ex-wife up. He’s a new kind of villain – a psychological thriller for the ages. Kristen Doute has never not been perfect for reality TV. She calls people constantly on their bullsh*t. And the best part is, she is usually right about everything.
Jason Caperna has stepped up as the voice of reason. While I can do without his Dave and Buster’s loving wife, the lawyer has been on the front lines when it comes to Jax. He is the one who drove him to rehab, and we know he gets called out in later episodes for not wearing a wedding ring. Danny Booko is going to be grilled up like a chicken kabob for his lack of control when intoxicated. Honestly, I’m forgetting Jax was even a main cast member at this point.
Jax Taylor should step aside from The Valley for good; Brittany Cartwright is thriving away from him
Even though it will never happen by his own free will, Jax should step aside from The Valley. There isn’t any room for a man who is willing to manipulate the women around him on reality TV. These blueprints might have worked for SUR in his 20s, but now they reek of uneducated desperation. The only way I could ever see Jax being enjoyable to watch was if he had a genuine redemption arc. But I don’t see that in his future. The fact is, Brittany is thriving out of the shadows of her husband. And she deserves that. I think back to the young woman we met who worked at Hooters. She had her whole life in front of her, and only now does it feel like she is living.
If Jax were to step aside, the show would continue. The Valley, with or without the father of one, is a priceless work of art. Between the cast and the tireless efforts of the crew, the series has become an overnight sensation.
The Valley is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
