Last week’s Sister Wives episode was brutal. It was raw and emotional, and the Brown family opened up about the unimaginable loss of Garrison Brown. For years, loyal fans have watched the family go through trials and tribulations, but no one saw this tragedy coming. The polygamous family allowed TLC cameras to film during the most vulnerable parts of their lives. Janelle Brown, like always, was the rock that kept her family holding it all together.

Janelle Brown opens up about losing Garrison Brown

Janelle was open as fans watched her recount the horrible moment she got the call that her beloved son had passed away. But as the first anniversary came and went, the mother of six has been able to process her grief in ways the Sister Wives fans find incredibly honorable. After Sunday’s episode aired, she took to her Instagram to share some words of thanks with followers. “It’s taken a while to accept the fact that, in the end, we did everything we could. Sometimes the mind convinces someone there’s no hope, even when all the evidence says otherwise,” shared the TLC star. “Being in Flagstaff this past week brought a deep awareness of how much I need this new chapter—somewhere different. Everywhere I looked, I could see traces of Garrison.”

As fans learned during the episode, Garrison had been struggling since COVID-19. According to Janelle, he would have incidents of heavy drinking, which often led to blackouts. She told fans, “I’m so thankful for all of my children, and especially for my grandbabies—they are truly life-giving. And because of my faith, I know I’ll be reunited with Garrison one day. That promise brings me immense comfort.”

Janelle Brown opened up about Garrison Brown’s final day

The Sister Wives episode revealed more to fans than they ever expected. Janelle, with the help of her daughter, Maddie Brown, spoke about Garrison’s final hours on Earth. According to Janelle, she and her son had been “Texting all day long … And this was not unusual because he and I talked probably three times a day. I knew he was struggling,” referencing Garrison’s struggles with anxiety and depression. “And I always just picked up the phone, and I always make it a point to just talk to him.” Janelle continued as she recalled that her and Garrison’s last chat wasn’t an uncommon interaction, sharing, “It was just, I think he needed the connection.”

Sister Wives fans learned that at that moment in time, Janelle wasn’t worried when Garrison stopped responding, as he had been heavily drinking. She told cameras, “He would go through periods where he was really good and then he just would have a binge just as part of the cycle.” As she went to bed for the night, she knew Hunter Brown and Logan Brown had agreed to check on him. Sadly, the next morning, she learned Garrison had committed suicide.

Janelle Brown showed immense grace toward Kody Brown

I know most Sister Wives fans are standing with metaphorical pitchforks and torches as they really dislike Kody Brown. However, Janelle didn’t say one unkind word about her ex-husband. Instead, both worked out plans at the funeral home and agreed to bury their sweet boy at the family plot in Wyoming. Janelle tearfully shared, “Kody and I decided that we would cremate him. I knew that’s what he wanted, so we did that. And that way it gives us the opportunity to have the funeral in a better time of year.” Both agreed that “He loved it there. So it felt appropriate.”

Kody agreed with his former wife. He told cameras, “I remember sitting there with Janell, and I was just going, ‘Hey, I really just want to take my boy home. And so I said, ‘Let’s take him back to Wyoming, and let’s bury him next to Grandma Cheryl.’ We just totally agreed that would be the right thing.” Many blame Kody as they believe he was a big part of Garrison’s misery. The father and son had a major falling out over the patriarch’s COVID-19 rules. At one point, Kody even tried to kick his son out of Janelle’s home. The mother of six has always been a strong pillar within the family. And even after losing her son, she is still determined to be the bright light for the rest of her children.

Sister Wives is available to stream on TLC.
