Summer House officially closed out another drama-filled summer in the Hamptons with this week’s Season 9 finale. A lot has changed since we first met the crew of city kids who work hard, but play harder on the weekends. A few of the show’s OGs have remained in the fold, like the Summer House “mom and dad” Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula.
The Season 9 finale of Summer House contemplated the future of the OGs. Lindsay Hubbard became a new mother after last summer and hinted that the Hamptons share house summer days might soon be over for her. Now, Amanda is chiming in to give her two cents on whether she’s ready to grow up from Summer House.
Summer House’s Amanda Batula comments on show’s age criticism
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Amanda spoke about her perspective on the future of Summer House. She began by admitting that she has no say in the matter, but has some ideas. “If I were on the inside, I think the show could go one of two ways,” she said. “It could either follow the current cast as we get older, or you know, we could sort of break off and it can go back to being young and partying and introducing more of those fun Gen Z kids.”
Although it’s clear that Amanda and Kyle have fun on the show, Amanda admits that she can’t “keep up” with the younger cast members. “I can’t keep up with half the stuff they’re saying. My husband definitely can’t, but you know, it’s fun having younger people in the house too,” she said. “I feel like it keeps me young.”
Ultimately, Amanda thinks that Summer House should take a similar route to Degrassi. “There’s a world where people need to, like, graduate out. We need the freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, [class], and we need some more freshmen for sure,” she added. “The show stays the same, but the people change.” It sounds like even Amanda knows that she and Kyle’s days of sending it could be coming to a close, but we’ll just have to wait and see when the status quo changes.
