Although Johnson and Martin kept their relationship out of the spotlight for the most part, they occasionally gave glimpses of their loved-up dynamics.

A new report has sparked breakup rumors about Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin, while the couple has yet to address the speculations. PEOPLE reported on Wednesday that the pair has ended their eight-year on-and-off relationship. A source told the outlet, “It feels final this time.” The split news comes after Johnson and Martin were spotted together during an outing in Malibu last month.
Earlier this year, in January, the 35-year-old actor was also seen with the Coldplay star in India. This was during the band’s stop for the “Music of the Spheres World Tour.” Some of the sightings showed Johnson and Martin walking hand in hand during their outings. This was after the alleged former couple were caught up in split rumors in August last year, too. However, a rep for Johnson confirmed to PEOPLE that they were still “happily together.”
Meanwhile, Johnson and Martin had been private about their romance since getting linked in 2017. However, they did not shy away from occasionally giving insights into their relationship. During a 2021 interview with Elle, Johnson got candid about her love life with Martin. The “Fifty Shades of Grey” star said, “We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes.”
However, Johnson noted, “But we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cosy and private.” The “Materialists” actor added, “Most of the partying takes place inside my house.” Despite the low-key love life, Johnson and Martin also had their ups and downs. A source previously told PEOPLE that “they’ve had issues and taken breaks in the past.” This was around the time there were split speculations last year. However, the source added that things were “great.”
