On Love Island USA Season 7 Episode 2, Yulissa Escobar left the villa with hardly any on-screen explanation. For those of us who are chronically online, we knew that her exit was because of those videos that resurfaced of her repeatedly using the N-word without any regard for its painful history. Love Island fans vowed to make her time in the Villa as short as possible, but the producers pulled her before she could get too far in the season.
Now, Yulissa has come forward with a statement, trying to apologize for using the racist language. She claims she’s “owning” her mistakes, but is it a little too late?

After only appearing in just one episode of Love Island USA, Yulissa uploaded a lengthy statement to Instagram apologizing for her blatant use of the N-word. Supposedly, she didn’t fully understand the weight of the anti-Black racial slur.
“First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using,” Yulissa began. “Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly.”
She continued, “In those clips, I used a word I never should’ve used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn’t excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It’s tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.”
According to Yulissa, she has “changed a lot” since the days when she would appear on unknown podcasts and casually use racial slurs. She says she doesn’t speak like that anymore and is moving forward with “humility and accountability.” Good for her, but it’s not going to get her back into the villa.
