Below Deck’s Captain Kerry Teases Police Being Involved in Season 12: ‘This for Me Is a First Time’

Below Deck skipper Captain Kerry Titheradge is a consummate professional. He keeps his cool under pressure but isn’t afraid to lighten the mood with his Aussie wit (when appropriate).

Following the cancellation of Bravo’s Below Deck Adventure, he took the helm on Below Deck Season 11. Now in his second season, Captain Kerry is settling in aboard the Motoryacht St. David, with fan favorite Fraser Olender at his side. The chief stew and the captain are friends, as well as co-workers.

In Season 12, an incident with a charter group required calling in the local gendarmes, which Kerry had “never, ever” had to do before. Making things worse, the local police only spoke French. Fortunately, Fraser, who is fluent en français, was available to translate.

Captain Kerry says Below Deck Season 12 gets “very elevated” before police arrive

“The Season 12 trailer begins with you contacting the maritime police about what I assume is an unruly charter group,” a DECIDER interview began. “Had you ever had to do that in your yachting career?”

“I’ve never, ever had to call the police to a boat before,” Kerry responded. “This for me is a first time.”

“It was very elevated,” Kerry continued. “The situation was handled very well by my crew.” But after exhaustive efforts to resolve the situation, Kerry decided “for the safety of the crew and the vessel” to call in the authorities.

But when the police arrived, they only spoke French. The language barrier would have been a problem were it not for Fraser’s brilliant translation.

“Imagine this,” Kerry chuckled, as he painted the scene. “You’ve got an Australian captain talking to a British guy who’s then speaking French to the locals. And then they’re speaking French back to him, and he’s speaking English back to me. So yeah, there was a lot going on. It was amazing to have Fraser there to be able to translate what I needed.”

The captain has a lot of respect for Fraser. Though they’re friends off-camera, Fraser respects his skipper on board. “The thing I love about Fraser is that … he’s always trying to improve,” Kerry explained. “He’s not one of these people who blame others for where he’s at. He looks at ways of going forward … I want the boat to elevate, and he wants to elevate. The only way we can do that is to work together.”

Below Deck airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo in the US and on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
