For years, Robyn Brown was Kody Brown’s undisputed favorite. As the only legally married wife, Robyn was afforded a few luxuries, like the luggage rack. She was the emotional partner and the one Kody put above everyone else. As the patriarch’s other marriages have completely unraveled, what’s left is a deeply strained relationship between him and Robyn. And during Season 19, their marriage no longer looked like the love story they once tried to sell. Without a doubt, the dynamic has shifted. Robyn, once the soft-spoken peacekeeper, is starting to show signs of resentment. And Kody? He’s flailing, still blaming everyone but himself for the crumbling empire he built.

How did Kody Brown and Robyn Brown first fall in love?

In 2010, Robyn entered Kody’s life. TLC fans were privy to their courtship and watched every secret kiss take place. At the time, Kody was married to Meri Brown legally and spiritually to Christine Brown and Janelle Brown. The polygamous clan was raising their large family in Lehi, Utah, and things looked swell. But Robyn represented something new. She was younger, more romantic, and seemingly more in tune with what Kody wanted in a partner. Season 1 showed that Robyn was officially in the mix. She became Kody’s fourth wife and, eventually, his only legal one after he divorced Meri in 2014 to formally adopt Robyn’s children from a previous marriage.

From the beginning of Sister Wives, the chemistry between Kody and Robyn was different. It was more affectionate, more emotional, and more public. While the other wives often felt like business partners or co-parents, Robyn was positioned as the romantic lead. And for years, that dynamic played out on screen. And while the others became outwardly frustrated, Robyn and Kody claimed to be soulmates. But that once-unshakable bond is starting to crack.

Robyn Brown is becoming resentful

It’s not just the sighs, the eye rolls, or the emotional distance that’s creeping into Robyn’s confessionals; it’s the outright frustration. During Season 19, Robyn has been more vocal than ever about her disappointment in Kody. The two even allowed an actual fight to play out on the small screen. It was interesting to see Robyn claim her voice and stand up to the father of 18. She’s made it clear more than once that she didn’t sign up to be the last woman standing in a broken family. And while she may have benefited from Kody’s favoritism for years, now she’s stuck with the full burden of his dysfunction.

Robyn has repeatedly said she wanted “a family,” not just the man. But what she’s left with is a sulking, defensive Kody who’s still mourning the loss of his three other marriages. While it might be hard to sympathise with Robyn, it looks like the mother of five is starting to pay the price. The connection with Kody is strained. And for the first time, Robyn no longer looks like she’s happy to be in her plural marriage. While Kody has made it clear he isn’t willing to live a plural lifestyle anymore, Robyn still has hope that she could try is again one day.

Kody Brown’s family infrastructure is failing

For years, Kody has shown that he is the high-maintenance spouse. He is vain and really does think the show is all about him. Kody built his identity around the idea of leading a plural family. He loves saying he was the patriarch keeping multiple marriages, children, and faith-based values in balance. But now, that infrastructure is collapsing. Christine left. Janelle walked away. Meri finally cut ties. And what remains is Kody and Robyn, sitting in an empty house filled with regret, resentment, and reality TV cameras.

For the Sister Wives clan, the dream is officially dead. And Kody still refuses to take any real responsibility for it. He continues to blame the wives for not getting along. He blames the pandemic. But the truth is, Kody’s leadership style, which is rooted in ego and control, was never sustainable. Now that Robyn is the only one left, the cracks in that foundation are impossible to ignore. Recently, Kody was spotted at the Dallas airport, alone, and looking angry. Could it be that Robyn has finally had enough? She’s trying to hold it together, but the emotional toll is visible. She’s been his therapist, his punching bag, and his last remaining audience. That’s not a marriage. That’s damage control.

Sister Wives is available to stream on TLC.
