Fire, tears, and a grandma skirt — the Project Runway Season 21 trailer is here, and it’s got everything we love about this show. Heidi Klum makes her grand return as host, and she’s serving up some killer looks in the first look at Season 21. Plus, she’s hinting at some new rules for the designers as the competition starts a new chapter.

The trailer for Season 21 shows Project Runway alum Christian Siriano introducing Heidi to this season’s contestants. They all lost their minds when she came around the corner. Either they had no idea she was returning to the franchise, or they were just blown away by how good she looks. Perhaps it’s a little bit of both.
In the clip, Heidi introduces Season 21’s judges, Nina Garcia and Law Roach. Of course, we get a glimpse of Law’s signature shade, with him telling one of the contestants that he “hated” their garment.
Heidi said, “Hate is such a big word,” to which Law quickly replied, “It’s a short word. It’s only four letters.”
The trailer also gives us a look at some of the glamorous guest judges, but more importantly, we get our first look at the designers in action. One of them will walk away with a life-changing cash prize, but Heidi warns the rules are changing in Season 21. We’ll have to watch the premiere to see what she means.
“This is truly a magical place where dreams do come true,” Heidi tells them.
Among this year’s contestants are a couple of Project Runway alums, like Jesus Estrada and Caycee Black. Plus, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Utica Queen is competing this season under her given name, Ethan Mundt. In the trailer, he says he wants to “make history” this season. A few moments later, they show him breaking down into tears.
Season 21 will certainly be making history one way or another. The first season to air on Freeform, all eyes are on Project Runway as Heidi and the gang usher in another new era for the long-running show.
Project Runway Season 21 kicks off on July 31 with a two-episode premiere at 9/8c on Freeform.
