On a sunset boat trip in Hawaii, one of Kristen Doute’s dreams finally came true. As the Maui sky turned orange, Luke Broderick got down on one knee and asked Kristen to marry him. But as Luke recalled on The Valley After Show, it almost didn’t happen. Multiple obstacles almost ruined their perfect day.
As it was meant to be a surprise, Luke subtly encouraged Kristen to clean up and look pretty. He knew Kristen would want to look her best, but she didn’t understand getting all dressed up to go fishing. Maybe you shouldn’t have picked a fishing excursion for your proposal, Luke.
As for Luke, he struggled with his own nerves and excitement, while trying to appear normal for his girlfriend.
Something not on Luke Broderick’s “radar” happened before his Kristen Doute proposal
Though both Luke and Zack Wickham encourage Kristen to shower, it was finally Nia Sanchez Booko who convinced her. Nia sent text messages that she wanted everyone to dress up for the evening. There wouldn’t be time after the boat, and Luke assured her that “gross fish smells” wouldn’t ruin their evening.
“The boat’s reserved, Danny Booko and Nia are coming, and Zack’s handling everything at the resort,” he assured her. Luke was apparently prepared for everything, except “Kristen not wanting to shower.”
On the boat, Luke and Danny made a plan that Luke would pretend to go get his hat, and Danny would keep Kristen from following him. Easy peasy. Or was it?
As a distraction, Nia wanted to take photos of Kristen, but Kristen was “not feeling cute.” But as she prepared herself for photos, Kristen sat on Luke’s bag. “We’re at the finish line,” Luke said in the Bravo confessional, “and she’s sitting on the ring.”
But outside, Danny came up with the perfect distraction, pretending he’d seen dolphins. Kristen excitedly trying to spot dolphins gave Luke the window of opportunity he needed. As she leaned over the boat’s railing looking out to sea, Luke managed to drop to one knee behind her.
Unfortunately, Kristen turned around and blurted, “F*ck!”
