Below Deck’s Hugo Ortega Spills New Details on Open Relationship

On Below Deck Season 12, there’s a new kid in town … or maybe I should say “on deck.” Bosun Hugo Ortega came in to replace Caio Poltronieri, who got fired in Episode 5.

On July 28, Hugo was a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Fans are aware that when he first came aboard the St. David, Hugo announced to the crew that he was in an “open relationship.”

Of course, this new information peaked everyone’s interest about the native New Yorker, both crew and BD viewers. Apparently, Andy’s studio audience was also curious, since the first question of the show was for Hugo.

Hugo Ortega opened up on Below Deck and WWHL about his open relationship

“So my question is for Hugo,” Jordan from Long Island began. “I wanted to know, since you’re in an open relationship, how come you haven’t pursued anyone this season? And are you still taken?”

“So, actually I want to lead … with something I saw online,” the BD newbie said. “Just because I’m in an open relationship doesn’t mean I’m sex-crazed, doesn’t mean that I’m starving for anything. So, if I jell with someone, that’s when I would want to pursue it. I just haven’t jelled with anyone.”

“Justice for open relationships!” Andy interjected.

“Yeah, thank you!” Hugo responded. “I’m not a nymphomaniac. I’m just in an open relationship.”

Furthermore, he added, “I have a beautiful girlfriend, who’s in the audience tonight. We’ve been together for five and a half years.”

“Wow!” Andy commented. “Why is she shaking her head ‘no’?” Maybe because men are notorious for not knowing how long they’ve been in a relationship/married? Women just tend to be the more accurate timekeepers, in general. Sorry, guys.

And thank you, Hugo, for clarifying your situation. Though I’ve never (knowingly) been in an open relationship, I’m sure some of my ex-boyfriends would have other opinions. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if Hugo gets involved with any of the other women (or men) on the boat.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo in the US. The show streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
