Real Housewives of Miami Season 7 is getting backlash for the cast’s disrespectful treatment towards Guerdy Abraira. Guerdy has been unfairly singled out since the first episode of Season 7. At this point, it’s not a stretch to point out that the cast may have an unconscious racial bias. Because it’s undeniable that Guerdy is treated differently and held to a higher standard than her fellow main Housewives in the cast.
Throughout the season, the cast has been called out for microaggressions, ostracizing Guerdy, and holding her to a different standard. It’s hard to watch the way her co-stars speak to and about her. It’s no coincidence that viewers see parallels between Guerdy and Garcelle Beauvais’ treatment on RHOBH. Enough is enough. It’s time for the RHOM cast to treat Guerdy with the respect and empathy she deserves.
The RHOM cast continues to disrespect Guerdy Abraira
It all started when Guerdy couldn’t get back into the Julia Lemigova’s Zoom meeting, so she sent a congratulations text. But Julia considered that “cold” and brought up a cruise from a while ago. It almost seemed like she was looking for any excuse to ostracize Guerdy. Then, she threw a glass of water on her.
This could be classified as a physical assault. It was inexcusable. However, no one in the cast stood up for Guerdy. Now, Alexia Nepola says she wishes she would’ve done more. But fans wondered if she only said that because of the backlash. Meanwhile, Stephanie Shojaee said Guerdy should get over it.
When she tried to talk to Alexia, the Cuban Barbie dismissed her as “overreacting.” When her and Julia made a truce, Julia almost instantly broke it. Instead of standing up for Guerdy, they all turned against her after she fought back. As Guerdy herself said numerous times, she felt like she had to do something major because no one would listen to her.
The RHOM cast’s reaction to Guerdy showing text messages was out of line
It’s appalling to see the cast act as if showing some text messages is worse than throwing water on someone. As Adriana de Moura said on Watch What Happens Live, the texts were Guerdy’s way of proving Julia asked her on the cruise. They weren’t hugely personal or private. But Marysol Patton compared it to the scene of the bullies pouring pigs blood on Carrie. Seemingly unaware that Julia pouring water on Guerdy is actually a much more apt comparison.
While the cast accused Guerdy of public humiliation, they returned the favor by all walking out of her event. Only Kiki Barth, Lisa Hochstein, Adriana, and Stephanie stayed behind.
Afterwards, Guerdy called out the group for holding her and Julia to different standards. Their excuses were thin and made no sense.
Guerdy has little to no support in the cast
On the August 6 episode, Guerdy got a phone call from Dr. Jackie Walters of Married to Medicine. Like Guerdy, Jackie is a breast cancer survivor. The two had a wonderful and supportive chat where Guerdy opened up about feeling unsupported by her cast. Jackie gave her great advice. It was a beautiful scene to watch. It also emphasized how few people Guerdy can confide in with the RHOM cast.
This is one reason why RHOM fans miss Dr. Nicole Martin. Her scene with Guerdy the previous episode was sorely needed. The balance is off without her in the cast. Of the current cast members, Lisa and Adriana seem like the only ones supporting Guerdy.
Guerdy had literal receipts when Marysol tried to come for her again
In another “Guerdy can’t win” moment, even her gifts were disrespected. When she appeared at Marysol’s preppie-themed party, she brought a wedding gift. It was a cocktail making machine. Marysol complimented the gift, but also accused Guerdy of regifting. She claimed that Lisa got the machine for Guerdy first.
Guerdy took to social media to share the literal receipts. “Enjoy those cockies! Oh! You’re welcome by the way,” she wrote alongside the screenshot. She also included how much the gift cost. Which, to me, makes the receipt sharing extra iconic.
Guerdy getting third seat at the RHOM Season 7 reunion is also disrespectful
Fans were baffled by the RHOM Season 7 seating chart. While Guerdy and Julia’s feud has been the central drama this season, they were both placed in third chair. Instead, Alexia and Stephanie were seated next to Andy. While Alexia and Stephanie’s feud is heating up, there must be something we’re not seeing yet to be first chair worthy. Especially since it’s very rare for a newbie to get first chair at a reunion. When Monica Garcia got first chair, it was because of the Reality Von Tease scandal. Is there a storyline of similar magnitude with Stephanie coming up?
Even if there is, putting Guerdy third when she is arguably the most talked about cast member makes no sense. Blogger Kiki Monique called it “rage bait.” As Bravo While Black put it, this felt like yet another slight after Guerdy’s “gotten a drink thrown on her, been dragged for iconic housewife behavior and then treated like a brokie (which was a lie).”
It’s time to give Guerdy a break
Guerdy isn’t just being dragged by her cast mates. Isaac Mizrahi also got a dig in on WWHL, which she rightfully called him out for. Then OK Magazine claimed she sells stories, which she shut down by commenting, “Name em! #MoreLies.”
The pile-on is completely uncalled for. This would be over-the-top even if Guerdy did something bad. But it’s so much worse because, aside from showing the text messages, what has she done? Even if some thought showing the texts was a step too far, the punishment is too much.
Guerdy is a cancer survivor. She is still healing emotionally and physically from that battle. Yet there’s no empathy for what she’s going through. It’s beautiful to see Guerdy’s husband talk about how proud he is of her. But it’s devastating to see none of that support from the co-stars who are supposed to be her friends. Through therapy, she’s also unpacking some of the trauma from her childhood. She’s going through a lot, so can she get a break already?
Since Guerdy is a fan favorite, there’s lots of backlash to the disrespect. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some apologies to Guerdy at the reunion. I just hope they’re genuine and not an attempt to save face. Because Guerdy deserves genuine apologies after what she’s been through.
