As each new week progresses, Anthony Iracane and Rainbeau de Roos continue to stand firm in their positions on Below Deck Season 12. While neither party is perfect, their storylines are by far the most captivating ones of this season. However, this is not saying much. Overall, this season is either missing the boat, jumping the shark, sinking, or any other maritime sayings that point towards a rather dull showing of this series.
In contrast, while the rest of their crew argues over who kissed whom and why, Anthony is making strides in the galley. Meanwhile, Rainbeau is working her tail off in the interior department, which Fraser Olender has clocked. Yes, her mouth gets the best of her at times. But, were most of us spending weeks on end wearing her boat shoes, our reactions would likely not be any gentler than hers.
To Anthony and Rainbeau, we salute. From their non-lusty storylines to their solid work ethics on this yacht, these two are singlehandedly saving Below Deck Season 12 from being one of the worst seasons in this franchise.
Anthony Iracane’s redemption arc is working on Below Deck Season 12

Anthony first appeared during Season 11 of Below Deck. However, his anxiety flared in the galley, which created timing issues, among other problems for himself and his guests. Due to his errors and instability in this position, Anthony got cut midway through his first season.
When the new chef hired to star on Below Deck Season 12 failed to last, Fraser had an idea. Why not bring back Anthony for a redemption season? Captain Kerry Titheradge liked this idea. So, shortly after, Anthony was back on our screens.
This time around, Anthony is nailing everything he attempts. He is also managing his triggers (mostly) well while standing up for himself as needed. Has he spiraled? Yes, but the Anthony from Season 11 could never rally like the Anthony in Season 12 has.
So far, zero guests have complained about his food. Captain Kerry has also dined with various guests, and he seems equally pleased with the rate at which Anthony has advanced. Additionally, Anthony truly cares for his guests, as seen in Episode 13. When he emotionally stated that he wanted to grant their guest, a cancer survivor, a beautiful vacation with fresh foods, it was hard not to fall all the more for this gentle, hardworking chef on Below Deck.
Rainbeau de Roos is a great new Below Deck addition

Like Anthony, Rainbeau is also an extremely hard worker. However, she has had a rougher go than the chef. You see, at her side is Solène Favreau, her fellow stew. Unlike Rainbeau, Solène has been actively seeking out breaks and periods of respite right from the jump.
Rainbeau started this season with a hard edge to her. Her childhood was intense, she explained, and, in turn, she learned coping mechanisms that helped her mentally stay afloat. Solène, however, responded to her lack of lovey-dovey responses with sass, and now, things have spiraled to a place of “beast of vagina bush” and “work, b*tch” jeers.
However, we can understand why Rainbeau is upset this season. She is taking on extra work, oftentimes to her own detriment. She is growing increasingly sleep-deprived as Season 12 progresses, yet she still stays up late every night, making sure that the yacht presents well for her guests in the morning.
But the best thing about having Rainbeau on this season? This girl is not involved in the rampant displays of raunchy behaviors, unlike the bulk of this heavily incestuous crew. Yes, she has kissed a certain deckhand. But Rainbeau is one of the very few stars on this series who is not using a hookup narrative as her only storyline, and for that, Rainbeau is helping to save Below Deck Season 12.
Below Deck Season 12 is suffering from the amount of hookup narratives

Apart from Anthony overcoming his past mistakes and Rainbeau talking herself out of arguing with her tiny fists this season, the only other storyline we have involves all the various hookups taking place on this yacht. Partners be damned. This crew wants to have and eat every slice of cake they encounter. And when they are not making out with someone, they are fighting or crying over their less-than-loyal lovers on board.
Additionally, one of the main teased storylines of this season involves a hookup of a different kind. Kyle Stillie bragged about banging a charter guest following her departure and almost lost his job over it. However, he lied (as far as we can tell). Yet, this man cannot stop talking about this storyline, except for the times that he is busy hooking up with other women on a bathroom floor or in a guest cabin on the superyacht St. David.
When meaningless sex is your only main storyline on a yacht-based series, well, then you know that this series has missed its mark. So, thank you, Anthony and Rainbeau, for giving us something else to talk about as Below Deck Season 12 progresses.
Below Deck is streaming on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
