Meghan Markle recently reflected on the time she spent away from her children for Queen Elizabeth‘s funeral. It’s fair to say she wasn’t exactly thrilled about having a break from Archie and Lilibet. In fact, she revealed she was “not well” during the period.
Meghan Markle was away from the kids for “almost three weeks”
Most parents of young kids would probably be quite pleased by the prospect of some alone time. But Meghan Markle has revealed that spending 17 days away from Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, made her feel ill. The admission came while speaking to Queer Eye presenter Tan France on a new episode of With Love, Meghan.
It’s believed Meghan is referring to her 2022 trip to the U.K. She and Prince Harry had been in Europe to attend several charity events, when the Queen fell ill. Her death and subsequent funeral resulted in the couple extending their trip to a total of 17 days.
During the second season of the Netflix show, Meghan talks to Tan about the challenge of eventually having to let their kids fly the nest. “I’ll miss them so much. You want to be the parent who’s like yes, go do it. Go do your thing. Go live that life. But I’m going to miss you so much,” she says, before mentioning the ill-fated U.K. trip: “The longest I went without being around our kids was almost three weeks. I was … not well.”
Harry also made mention to the trip in his 2023 memoir Spare: “Our quick trip would now be an odyssey. Another ten days, at least. Difficult days at that. More, we’d have to be away from the children for longer than we’d planned, longer than we’d ever been.”
The couple have chosen to raise their two children out of the public eye in Montecito, California.
