Why do people hate Meghan Markle with such a passion? Why can’t they stop obsessing over her every move? What reasons do people give for not liking Meghan Markle?
Meghan Markle has been highly criticized since she entered Prince Harry’s life. Early on, people found her to be fake and a try-hard. Many scoffed at her claiming she didn’t know how big of a deal the royals were. Others said she tried too hard and wanted too badly to be famous. Personally, I think you could say this of almost every celebrity! But Meghan was seen as extra calculating in her attempts. Tabloid stories also accused Meghan of acting rude towards members of the royal family, staffers, and others.
However, the biggest reason people give for not liking Meghan Markle is due to her and Harry leaving the royal family. People blame her for Prince Harry’s rift with his family. They accused her of disrespecting the royals and of manipulating him.
Nevermind that Harry was always considered the black sheep, the “spare,” and seems to have problems with his family completely unrelated to Meghan. Nevermind that he was traumatized by his mother’s death, and repeatedly said how terrified he was of history repeating itself with his wife. No one gives Harry the agency to consider that, after the rude comments, endless tabloid hate, and lack of title or protection given to his children, he could also want to leave it behind.
People need to stop obsessing over Meghan
It’s one thing if people decide they don’t like Meghan and then just continue to not pay attention to her. But Meghan Markle inspires an especially obsessive kind of hate. Every move she makes is criticized. Including the words she uses, her body language, the outfits she wears, and the names of her children. It’s ridiculous.
People are also obsessed with rooting for Meghan to fail. See the glee many had when her and Harry’s Spotify deal was canceled. Before it even premiered, tabloids and haters decided With Love, Meghan would be a massive flop. Even when it got renewed for Season 2, the show was written about as if it were a failure. The obsessive need for her to not succeed is completely uncalled for. How does Meghan’s Netflix cooking and lifestyle show impact these people’s lives?
No matter how many times Meghan speaks about the detriment the hate has on her mental health, it never stops. See Jeremy Clarkson’s infamous op-ed about hating her (thankfully, he’s since apologized). Even if you think Meghan is tone deaf, rude, or calculating, how does that possibly warrant this amount of hate?

The continued obsession with Meghan is extra baffling now because she’s not even an official member of the royal family. And because the royals have much bigger concerns than her unlikability. But Prince Andrew’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein is not a scandal that will go away. To put it mildly. The public’s interest with unmasking Epstein’s clients is at an all time high. And just recently, news broke that Virginia Giuffre wrote a memoir that will be published posthumously. Clearly, this is a much more serious issue for the royals than anything to do with Harry and Meghan.
