Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Pays Tribute on the Anniverary of Her Death

It is hard to believe that Princess Diana died 28 years ago. She died in a tragic car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. Her romantic partner, Dodi al-Fayed, was also killed. Diana was just 36 years old. Now, Diana’s brother, Earl Charles Spencer, is remembering his beloved sister.

The world watched as Diana’s sons, 15-year-old Prince William and 12-year-old Prince Harry, solemnly walked behind her casket during her funeral procession. Their uncle, Charles Spencer, their father, and Diana’s ex-husband, King Charles III, and the late Prince Philip, walked with them. Sadly, Harry is now estranged from his father and brother.

Princess Diana died 28 years ago, and her brother Charles Spencer is paying tribute

Charles Spencer marked the sad occasion, sharing a post via Instagram. He shared a photo of a beautiful bouquet of pink and white flowers. The second photo featured the private island where Diana is buried. He captioned the photos, “Flowers we cut this morning from Althop’s gardens for the Island. Always an impossible day.”

Meanwhile, the island where Diana was laid to rest is in the middle of a lake on the estate where she grew up, Althorp House. Charles still resides at the estate today. Due to some odd rules regarding inheritances, neither Prince William nor Prince Harry will inherit their mother’s childhood home. Charles Spencer’s son, Louis Spencer, will inherit the estate since it must pass to the eldest male heir. So, the estate will bypass Charles’ eldest child, Lady Kitty Spencer.

Still, if Diana were still alive, I have a feeling that she would mend the broken relationship between her sons, Prince Harry and Prince William. “There is no doubt Diana would have tried to act as a peacemaker between them,” Andrew Morton, Diana’s biographer, stated. “If she had been around, they would have worked things out.”
