His time on Two and a Half Men ended rather unceremoniously, but Charlie Sheen has nothing but gratefulness for his co-star.
Charlie and Jon Cryer were on one of the biggest television shows for eight years. When Charlie’s drug addiction began to spiral, the show cut ties with him and brought in Ashton Kutcher.
A lot has changed for Charlie since then, with the Emmy Award-winning actor turning 60 on Wednesday. He is eight years sober and preparing for the release of his new book and Netflix documentary.
It’s been over a decade since Charlie and Jon were working together on television. The Golden Globe Award winner took some time recently to reflect on his relationship with Jon.
Charlie Sheen is grateful for Jon Cryer’s compassion

Ahead of his new documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, the actor says that there was one person he didn’t contact about the project. “The only person I didn’t call personally to participate in the doc was Jon,” Charlie told People. “I didn’t call him was because I didn’t have the right number for him, so the director reached out to him,” Charlie added.
After hearing everything Jon said, though, Charlie wrote him a letter to express his gratitude. “I wrote to him, and I said, ‘Hey, thank you for your contributions, and I’m sorry we didn’t connect personally. I hope to see you around the campus.”
Charlie says he understands Jon’s anger towards him during the show. He adds that he appreciated his words in the documentary. “It was really cool to hear from his perspective,” said Charlie.
“He was in the line of fire with all that stupid sh*t going on, and it was affecting him and his family and his career and all that. I can’t debate anything that he said,” Charlie added.
Jon believes that Charlie’s addiction problems stemmed from his lack of self-belief. “He nailed that, and I’m so glad he opened that door, because it gave me a chance to really start thinking about that,” said Charlie.
On The View, Jon opened up about Charlie and whether or not he’d work with him again:
“I love him, I wish him the best, he should live in good health for the rest of his life, but I don’t know if I want to get in business with him for any length of time.”
AKA Charlie debuts on September 10, the day after his memoir The Book of Sheen comes out.
