How Andy Cohen and Howard Stern Pranked Listeners Amid Cancelation Rumors

Howard Stern finally returned to the airwaves today after being M.I.A. for a week. His absence didn’t exactly ease rumors that he’s likely to be axed from SiriusXM. The shock jock’s much anticipated return started unexpectedly, with the DJ enlisting the help of Andy Cohen to prank listeners.

Andy Cohen jokingly took over Howard Stern’s radio show

Howard Stern returned to work today, and listeners tuned in eagerly to hear him confront rumors that SiriusXM plans to cut ties when his contract expires. However, the DJ couldn’t resist a bit of trolling. It was Andy Cohen’s voice people tuning in heard first – with the Bravo star announcing he was taking over Howard’s show.

The DJ said that his week-long absence was due to a bad cold. He explained: “I had no voice whatsoever. Could not come on the air. I mean, I literally couldn’t get a word out. So I don’t know. This is the f cold from hell.”

He also addressed the rumors, confirming that he hadn’t reached a deal with SiriusXM as yet. He said: “Here’s the truth. Sirius XM and my team have been talking about how we go forward in the future. And you know, we’ve been talking.”

Reports have been shared for weeks that his $100 million five-year contract will not be renewed. The show is reported to be suffering a decline in listeners amid competition from podcasts and the like.

The DJ has long been a source of controversy. He has often been accused of sexism, with stunts like asking Nicole Anna Smith to weigh herself live on air and making sexual comments toward Emma Bunton.

However, things took a turn when some insiders claimed the whole thing was actually a hoax to promote the show.
