Popular TV shows often come with strong opinions from fans, but sometimes people take it way too far. While TV stars are often expected to put up with personal attacks, Olivia Cooke isn’t here for it. The House of the Dragon actress recently spoke out about the toll the online trolling has on her.
Olivia Cooke isn’t afraid to call out the trolls who watch House of the Dragon
Game of Thrones was such a huge popular show that it often evoked strong emotions from fans. It’s unsurprising then that its prequel House of the Dragon would be similarly polarizing. However, as most of us over the age of 12 know, there’s a difference between sharing passionate opinions and going on the attack.
Unfortunately, the stars of the award-winning show are all too aware of this. Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in the series, recently opened up about the backlash she and her co-stars receive at the hands of rabid fans. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “Some of the fans have been f*cking horrible to our cast. It makes me really angry that we’re then supposed to just bow down and [pay] obeisance to these people that only want to say the most debased, hate-filled things.”
The actress tied hatred of her character to misogyny ingrained in fandom and society. She said: “It’s only really getting worse. I think about the women in Afghanistan who haven’t had the right to an education or work for years now, the rise of Andrew Tate and Tommy Robinson dismissing any agency or autonomy that women should have as an innate human right.”
Season 3 of House of the Dragon is still in production, with speculation it will air sometime in mid-2026.
