As shared by Variety Magazine, while celebrating Jessica, Viola recalled a specific scene from The Help. In this clip, Celia Foote, the character Jessica brilliantly portrayed, had just moved to town. She wanted to fit in with her peers, but they failed to welcome her with open arms. In fact, these women straight-up hid from her character, which Viola noted made Jessica a highly relatable character.

“In that moment, despite the outward differences, you were me. You were any woman who felt unworthy, wanting to belong. Jessica, you understand the task of being an artist. And I love how you do what you do,” Viola praised.

Then, Viola clocked her industry, stressing that sometimes, Hollywood puts women “in a box.” Yet, as Viola noted, Jessica has a knack for pushing all preconceived boundaries, which helps her audience understand that no one fits completely inside societal norms. “You shift us, confront us, wake us up, and we do, because we must,” Viola said, only to then ask, “How can you not when you see an artist dip the brush into their own soul?”

Viola then thanked Jessica for always standing in her corner whenever she felt alone. As she remembered, Jessica told her, “Viola, never feel alone. You contact me. I will always be there.” Overall, Viola thinks that Jessica has a solid grasp on “the revolutionary act of making people feel less alone.”
