A former butler is sharing details about his time working for the royal family, and he’s not holding back. In a new interview, the ex-Buckingham Palace insider revealed more tea about when Meghan Markle joined the family. And he hints at the reason she and Prince Harry ended up stepping back from the monarchy.
The former royal butler called Meghan Markle a “Disney Princess”
If you’ve ever wanted to be a fly on the wall of Buckingham Palace, now’s your chance. Grant Harrold, former butler to King Charles, is spilling all of their secrets. The insider has written a book about his time in service, titled “The Royal Butler.”
His juicy anecdotes aren’t confined to his memoir, however. In a recent interview with Page Six he made some eyebrow-raising remarks about his former employers. He said that Meghan didn’t quite grasp the importance of her royal duties and sticking to engagements, which are set months in advance.
He explained: “She would rather have lunch with her friends, thinking that was fine and it wasn’t. That’s not how it works. You can’t change it. She obviously thought she could come in and do her thing, and you can’t.”
He didn’t stop there, adding: “I think the problem with Meghan is that she went into the organization and she assumed that after watching all the Disney princesses that she thought it was going to be like that. When you join the royal family, you are given rules and protocols to follow.”
Meghan has previously spoken about her difficulty to adapt to royal rules.
On Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry, he noted that “As soon as Meghan came into his life, everything changed. It could be that Harry had his own awakening and suddenly decided he didn’t like the organization, but the problem is that Meghan was with him when it happened.”
The former butler also said that Harry’s relationship with King Charles may be irreparable. He said: “The king doesn’t trust Harry, because of what Harry has said. He worried that he would use it to his advantage. And he has. If they reconcile, then fall out again, what’s to say there won’t be another book, Netflix series or interview about it?”
