Meghan Markle‘s wine has been receiving mixed reviews after its launch earlier this year, and an expert has claimed that it “doesn’t feel thoughtful.” The Duchess of Sussex has been exploring her long-lasting love of cooking and winemaking under her lifestyle label, As Ever. It offers a collection of products, including flower sprinkles, spreads, tea, and more. In July, Markle also added the Napa Valley Rosé to the As Ever family. A new report has now shed some light on how the expert tasters have reacted to the duchess’s wine.
Meghan Markle’s wine doesn’t taste like it’s ‘handcrafted from family-owned vineyards,’ expert claims
Meghan Markle’s Napa Valley Rosé wine under her lifestyle label, As Ever, has received mixed reviews from experts. RadarOnline‘s exclusive report detailed some reactions from a panel that sampled the bottle. Dana Beninati, a classically trained chef, sommelier, and host of Dine with Dana, gave the wine six out of 10. She shared that when she takes the first sip, it is “hot on the finish.”
Beninati said, “Not in temperature but in alcohol content.” The expert explained that she gets that “heat on the nose.” Beninati added that there is also a “slight burn in the aftertaste.” She declared, “All this indicates a high-alcohol wine.” Beninati continued to state that it was “really surprising” to her. She explained that consumers these days are “generally looking for drinks that are lower in alcohol and sugar.”
Beninati further stated that the wine “doesn’t feel thoughtful.” She added that it “doesn’t feel like” she’s “supporting a small family-owned winery.” Beninati even suggested that she believes this is a wine “made by expert marketers” and “not by Meghan.” She added that it “doesn’t taste like something” that has been “handcrafted from family-owned vineyards.” On the other hand, another expert was quite impressed.
Crystl Faye Horton, former wine director at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in New York, told RadarOnline that the $30 rosé bottle is a “steal.” The expert gushed that there is “so much going on flavor-wise in this wine.” Horton further commented that it “really feels like somebody wanted to make this wine with intention.” She added, “It is a serious wine.”
