Golden Bachelor Mel Owens is facing fresh controversy from his ex-wife

In new court documents reviewed by Daily Mail, Fabiana said that he owed her nearly $1 million. They settled their divorce in December 2024 after spending four years in court. In the settlement, Fabiana waived her right to spousal support and agreed to leave the marital home.
The couple purchased their five-bedroom, three-bathroom Orange County home in 2008 for $840,000. The home is now worth over $2 million. In the divorce settlement, Mel was ordered to pay Fabiana an equalization payment of $980,000 by February 28, 2025. According to Fabiana, she’s still waiting to get that money.
‘To date, he has made only a single partial payment of $40,000, leaving an unpaid balance of $940,000 – exclusive of the interest that continues to accrue,” Fabiana said in the court filing.
Additionally, Fabiana said that Mel is on the hook for $25,000 in attorney’s fees. Mel makes an estimated $20,000 per month from retirement income, not including his new paycheck from Golden Bachelor Season 2. With that in mind, Fabiana doesn’t understand why he’s not paying.
According to Fabiana, her ex-husband is also at least one month behind on the mortgage. Since she is a co-obligor on the loan, she’s worried that his lapse in payment could negatively impact her. Therefore, she’s asking the court to force the sale of the home. She wants him to vacate the property ASAP and keep the house on the market until it sells.
The outlet reached out to Mel’s attorney for comment, but they refused to speak on the matter. There’s a court hearing scheduled for next month for the exes to sort through this mess. In the meantime, the outlet reached out to Mel’s attorney for comment. They refused to speak on the matter.
The Golden Bachelor airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
