Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko are one of the twelve couples remaining on Dancing with the Stars Season 34. While there was some speculation that Gleb wouldn’t return this season, he surprised viewers when he was announced as Hilaria’s partner. Hilaria is best known for being the wife of actor and film producer Alec Baldwin.
During the first elimination, Gleb and Hilaria were the last couple announced as safe. While they were glad to get another week in the ballroom, not everyone was thrilled about their immunity.

The DWTS Season 34 cast features many current and popular stars, although Hilaria is not exactly one of them. On every DWTS season, there are couples that struggle to get votes, even if they have high scores. So far, it seems like Hilaria and Gleb have become one of those couples on Season 34. While they’re talented in the ballroom, they’re not the most popular with fans.
Hilaria has extensive ballroom dance experience
One of the biggest red flags with Hilaria is her extensive experience in ballroom dance. While it’s not uncommon to see stars with dance experience, it’s usually never in ballroom specifically. This makes the competition unfair, as all of the stars are supposed to be learning ballroom from scratch. Ballroom is completely different from other types of dance, which means that the stars with other dance experience often don’t have much of an advantage.
This isn’t the case with Hilaria, however. After her Cha-cha-cha on night one, it was clear that Hilaria had retained a lot of her ballroom expertise. She already knew about ballroom specifics, such as frame and footwork, giving her an advantage over her competitors. Hilaria received some of the highest scores of the night, which can be attributed to her past. While she did perform well, many fans don’t feel that her casting was fair given her previous ballroom dancing.
Hilaria may have good scores from the judges, but without fan votes, she won’t be able to stick around much longer. Some viewers have expressed on social media that they don’t plan to vote for Hilaria as they felt her casting was unfair. Hilaria being in the bottom three during the first elimination could be a possible indication of not having many votes. If that’s the case, her future in the competition is already in jeopardy.
Hilaria has a somewhat controversial past
Another problem some viewers have with Hilaria is her lack of cultural awareness. Hilaria previously claimed she was born in Spain, although this isn’t true. She was born in Boston and, in fact has no Spanish heritage.
Throughout the years, Hilaria has been accused of faking a Spanish accent. This is seen as cultural appropriation by a lot of viewers, and even as a mocking of Spanish culture. Hilaria is bilingual but was raised in America and has no reason to fake a Spanish accent when speaking English. Some fans feel that Hilaria pretends to be Spanish, which is controversial.
Gleb is currently involved in drama with his ex Brooks Nader, who he was paired with last season
Hilaria isn’t the only controversial one in her partnership with Gleb, as he has his own troubles. During DWTS Season 33, Gleb was paired with model Brooks Nader. The pair quickly developed a showmance, which eventually blossomed into a real relationship.
Several months after the show, however, Brooks accused Gleb of cheating on her and broke up with him. This was recently documented on the Brooks’ family’s new reality show Love Thy Nader. This scandal was extremely controversial for Gleb, and even made DWTS viewers doubt that he’d be invited to return.
Hilaria and Gleb are both controversial, making them a difficult pair to root for this season. While they have the skill, they likely won’t have the fan votes to make it far this season.
