Contrary to his daughter’s words, Thomas Markle is safe and sound in the Philippines.
That’s according to the estranged father of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. When a massive earthquake struck the country, there was widespread speculation that Meghan’s dad was affected by the blast. Thomas is setting the record straight on the rumors. He says that in no way is he “trapped” and “unable to walk.”
The idea that he might be stranded in the Philippines originated from a social media post by his daughter Samantha. She had some choice words for the Duchess, calling Meghan evil and accusing her of putting Thomas in that position.

When you are connected in some way to the royal family, word can travel fast, with some of the most far-fetched notions suddenly becoming a trending topic. That is what has happened with Thomas Markle. On X, his daughter and Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha, posted that her dad was stuck on the 19th floor of a building due to the earthquake in the Philippines.
Thomas, however, recently told TMZ that he is perfectly fine. “I’m currently sitting on the couch in my hotel room, with my feet kicked up and watching Charlie Chan movies,” he said. He says that his hotel wasn’t even impacted by the quake. “The epicenter was 100 miles from here.”
A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit the Philippines on Tuesday, killing several people, while many others have been trapped in their homes as a result.
Meghan cut ties with her dad ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, stating that he had staged paparazzi photos in an attempt to boost his image. Tensions between Meghan and her half-sister have been high over the past couple of months. Samantha is reportedly taking Meghan back to court on defamation charges. It’s a case Samantha previously lost against her famous half-sister.
Thomas said that he’s in the Philippines looking at places to live as he intends to leave Mexico.
