Kim Kardashian has again got the internet talking as she released a pubic hair thong in 12 shades, from blonde to brunette, with both curly and straight textures. Retailing for $32, the release has already sparked a heated debate online, with reactions ranging from bewilderment to grudging admiration.
Kim Kardashian’s new pubic hair thong draws criticism from fans
On October 14, Kim Kardashian unveiled what might be her most controversial product yet: the Faux Hair Micro String Thong. The launch campaign parodies 1970s game shows in an Instagram video. Dubbed “Does the Carpet Match the Drapes?”, the clip showed contestants lifting tiny skirts to reveal the thongs while an audience guessed the “carpet color.”
Fans were quick to voice their disbelief. Comments flooded, saying “Who asked for this???” and “Is everything ok?” One user joked, “I’m calling 911,” while another referenced Netflix’s latest true crime series, saying, “Ed Gein would have loved these.”
One user lamented, “Don’t you dare Kimberly. I just spent a fortune on laser. We are not bringing the bush back.” Another remarked, “This definitely takes the cake on the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” while one said, “These are hideous.”
Some users even speculated that SKIMS was testing how far people would go for viral purchases. “My theory is they wanted to prove people will pay money for anything,” one fan theorized. Others, though, saw the brilliance behind the chaos. “Everyone saying WTF? Yet EVERYONE talking about it. Kim is a genius,” a user noted. Another added, “This is probably for the women that lasered it off.”
For longtime SKIMS followers, this isn’t the first time Kim Kardashian has pushed the boundaries of underwear design. In 2023, the brand launched its now-infamous Nipple Bra, featuring built-in faux nipples, which sold out within days. Earlier this year, SKIMS reimagined that style with faux nipple piercings.
Still, the Faux Hair Micro String Thong is being dubbed as SKIMS’ most audacious experiment yet. It revives the centuries-old concept of the merkin, which is a pubic wig originally worn by sex workers in the 1400s, into a modern, wearable, and marketable fashion item.
