Would the real Jim Carrey please stand up? The Canadian comedian, known for countless famous impressions, was believes to have been impersonated by someone else recently. The Ace Ventura actor was honored at the 51st César Awards last week.
Drag artist Alexis Stone recently shared some details about the big night in Paris. As it turns out, however, Alexis was not portraying Jim, though his social media post suggested otherwise. Jim received an honorary César Award at the ceremony in France.

Makeup and prosthetics can make us believe many things. Alexis showed off both on Instagram, leading many to think he was in fact pretending to be Jim Carrey while on stage in the French capital. His prosthetics and wig resembled how Jim looked that night.
The general delegate of the César Awards, Gregory Caulier, however, told Variety that we all saw the real Jim Carrey on stage to accept the honor. He called it “a historic moment.” According to Gregory, the rumors that it wasn’t Jim on stage were a “non-issue” for him. He says that a lot of preparation went into Jim’s tribute, with the actor learning his entire speech in French.
For many, his French accent sounded very unpolished. While he apparently went through a lot to learn the speech in one of his native land’s two official languages, many noted how North American he sounded. Jim apologized for his French, calling it “mediocre.”
Unlike what we are used to seeing from the comedian, Jim seemed very humbled and emotional at the event. He delivered a heartfelt speech after receiving the award, striking a chord with audiences. Jim was surrounded by family for the big moment. He gave thanks to father Percy Joseph Carrey, calling him “the funniest man I have ever known.” Jim follows Julia Roberts as the latest recipient of the honorary César Award.
