Jamar Champ died after being hit by a car on the wrong side of the highway
KHOU 11 first reported the news of the car crash that happened on Tuesday, October 28. Jamar was traveling in his Tesla Cybertruck when a driver in a BMW hit him head-on while going in the wrong direction on the freeway. The impact caused the BMV to catch on fire, and Jamar’s truck slammed into a semitruck. Residents in the area told the police that wrong-way drivers are a recurring issue on this stretch of highway.
The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency personnel rushed Jamar to the hospital in critical condition, but he did not survive. Masika confirmed the news of her husband’s passing in a statement to The Shade Room.
“It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ,” the reality star began. “During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory.”
Love & Hip Hop fans will remember Masika from Season 1 of LHHH. She first appeared as a supporting cast member before making her full-time debut in Season 3. Her storyline revolved around being a new mom and navigating coparenting struggles with her baby’s father, Fetty Wap.
The former video vixen married Jamar in 2020, years after leaving Love & Hip Hop. In 2022, they welcomed a daughter named Amari.
According to multiple reports, Masika previously revealed on social media that she and Jamar spent “all of 2023” separated. It’s unclear if they reconciled their issues before his passing, but either way, it’s an unimaginable loss for the mother of two.
“I am in shambles please respect my family and my children at this time,” the reality star wrote on Instagram.
