Andy Cohen has given a candid interview, detailing his longtime friendship with John Mayer. The TV star also addressed the speculations surrounding the nature of their relationship.
Andy Cohen talks about John Mayer in new interview
Andy Cohen recently appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, where he opened up about his friendship with John Mayer. The popular television host shared how they like to spend a “typical night out” and gushed about the bond he shares with the singer.
“It is us going to dinner. We always sit on the same side of the booth. We sit next to each other always,” he began. “But I do, as the night goes on, find myself sinking into him because he’ll have his arm around me,” the star added.
Cohen went on to recall a tender moment that he recently shared with Mayer. “As a matter of fact, we were at the Sunset Tower last week and I was getting so physical with him by the end that he was like, ‘Andy,’ but I was kind of using his body to tell a story about a guy, but then I was like, I was in my cups a little bit,” he stated.
The Primetime Emmy-winning star further admitted, “We love each other. If I could find a gay guy that was him, it would be magic, but you know what? I am so grateful for the love that we have.”
There have been speculations of a romantic entanglement between them. However, Cohen has put the rumors to rest, confirming that their relationship is strictly platonic.
Mayer has offered his own insights into their friendship in a 2024 letter to The Hollywood Reporter. “I think that to suggest that people are dubious of a friendship like mine and Andy’s is to undermine the public’s ability to accept and understand diversity in all facets of culture, be it in art or in real life,” the musician wrote.
Mayer concluded by saying, “Reinforcing the idea that any gay/straight relationship needs qualification that it’s not sexual devoids everyone involved of their dignity.”
