Danielle Fishel Says ‘Disordered Eating’ Triggered by Next DWTS Performance

The upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night on Dancing with the Stars is taking a toll on Danielle Fishel. The former Boy Meets World actress will dance to Dream On by Aerosmith. It’s a classic, but during the latest episode of her podcast, she explained how preparing for the contemporary routine with her partner, Pasha Pashkov, has unexpectedly triggered a lot of negative emotions.

Danielle Fishel has some worries about her next Dancing with the Stars performance

Throughout Season 34 of DWTS, Danielle has been documenting her experience on the Danielle with the Stars podcast. During the November 2 episode, she spoke with former pro Louis van Amstel. The pair had an extremely candid conversation about how the Aerosmith performance has touched her personally.

“We are telling the story about how difficult it can be to be a woman in a society where we are somehow always too much and also never enough,” Danielle explained. “No matter what choice you make, whether you work inside the home or outside the home. If you choose to work outside, then you’re selfish, and your children need you, and where is their mother? And if you work inside the home, then you are boring and don’t have interests.”

She continued, “And if you get Botox and fillers, then you’re not aging gracefully. And if you age gracefully, then you look old and ugly. And if you are too thin, you’re told to eat a burger, and if you gain weight, you’re told to get off the couch.”

“There’s no winning, and having been in the public eye and on TV since I was 10 years old, I have been under a microscope, and my choices have been scrutinized,” she said. “I’ve made terrible mistakes … And I’m resistant to it because it’s triggering so many things in me.”

Danielle told Louis that the process of preparing for the dance triggered a wave of “disordered eating” and “a lot of negative self-talk.” She said that the emotional weight is making her not want to perform, but she’s trying to lean into the experience.

“You’ve made it so far,” Louis told her. “You can take the nerves and give up, or you take the nerves and switch on, use the adrenaline and say, ‘People at home, watch this.’”

Danielle thanked Louis for his kind words amid a “rough week.” She said his support and advice, both on and off the pod, have helped her “wake up.” Now, she’s ready to take the floor.

Dancing with the Stars airs Tuesdays on Disney+ and ABC at 8/7c. You can stream it the next day on Hulu.
