BBC Apologizes for Calling Kate Middleton by Her Own Name

An on-air blunder last week has led a major news outlet in the UK to apologise to its audience.

The error occurred during a November 11 broadcast when the BBC referred to Kate Middleton by only her name rather than the royal title, Catherine, Princess of Wales.

At the time, the network was televising ceremonies for Armistice Day, better known as Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. Viewers weren’t pleased with the mishaps, with complaints being registered.

The network recently admitted they had made a mistake.

We don’t know how many were displeased about the on-air mistake, but enough for the UK network to issue a statement. The BBC says they failed to refer to the Princess by her royal title.

In a bizarre statement, they said, “These were errors during hours of live broadcasting for which we apologise.” They add that throughout the day’s coverage, more broadly, they referred to Prince William’s wife by her correct titles.

Presenter Rajini Vaidyanathan anchored the coverage that day. Jim Shannon, a member of Parliament in Northern Ireland, sent a tweet to the BBC. He reminded them that the Princess hasn’t been known as Kate Middleton since 2011. She and the heir to the throne, William, got married in late April of that year.

On Tuesday, the Princess attended an event at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. While visiting a veteran on that day, she was surprised to hear about one man’s secret to a long life. Bill Redston, who is 100 years old, shared with her that he’d run the London Marathon at the age of 65.

Last year, it was revealed that the Princess was diagnosed with cancer. In September, she announced that she had finished a round of chemotherapy, returning to her royal duties.

TELL US – DO YOU BELIEVE THE BBC’S MISHAP WAS A LACK OF RESPECT TO THE PRINCESS OF WALES?
