Meghan Markle’s holiday promotion for her new Netflix special, “With Love, Meghan,” is drawing a lot of attention, and not for the festive or celebratory reason. The Duchess of Sussex posed for the campaign wearing an emerald green Galvan “Ushuaia” dress. This was the same $1,695 piece she reportedly wore during a 2022 Variety photoshoot, and now, the wardrobe choice has reignited talk about claims from that very shoot.
Meghan Markle’s green dress reportedly sparks past controversy
According to Radar Online’s exclusive report, Meghan Markle’s green dress brought back chatter that she had kept several items from the shoot without proper clearance. The story traces back to journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis, who discussed the situation in March 2024 on Andrew Gold’s “Heretics” podcast.
Grigoriadis claimed she had been told that Markle did not return “a lot of stuff” after she “wore it in a very high-profile photo shoot,” referring to the Variety shoot.
While she admitted that this kind of mix-up “does happen from time to time,” Grigoriadis said what surprised her most was the idea that Markle, who was living in a multimillion-dollar Montecito home, would even need to hold onto borrowed items.
She said, “What’s shocking about hearing these kinds of alleged stories is that somebody who is living in a 15 million plus mansion in Montecito who’s just had had $100million deals would care enough to take home some jewelry and clothes from a photoshoot that she can clearly afford.”
Fashion observers recognized the emerald gown in the new Netflix images, noting how it matched the one from Variety’s 2022 cover feature. However, the claims remain unproven, and Markle herself has not commented on the rumors.
The timing of Meghan Markle’s latest project — meant to promote warmth, tradition, and celebration — has become overshadowed by speculation. What began as a cheerful holiday campaign has instead reopened an old conversation about her reputation in the fashion world.
