Erika Kirk Faces Backlash for ‘Pressuring’ Young Women To Have Kids

Erika Kirk is taking some heat for her advice to young women. The widow of political activist Charlie Kirk recently said she prayed to God that she was pregnant after her husband was assassinated at a political event.

Among other things, she is urging young women not to hold off on having kids. For some, those comments came off as a way of pressuring the youth into having children. She said she and Charlie wanted to have four kids during their time together. They had two: a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.

Perhaps for the first time since her husband’s death, Erika is facing criticism for her words. In an interview on the Megyn Kelly Show, she insisted, “You can always have a career, you can always, you know, go back to work. You can never just go back to having children.”

In the past, the mother of two has been praised for her grace and willingness to forgive, even the man who killed her husband. She garnered more love for her comments to Jimmy Kimmel. She told him that she didn’t need him to apologize for making what some deemed insensitive remarks following Charlie’s death.

Erika’s recent comments, though, have earned her anything but praise. Many consider her words to be insensitive. The reason is how difficult it is for young couples to decide to have kids without stable finances, a home, or other resources needed to raise a child properly.

Offering that advice without some of those considerations are among the things irritating people. “It is cruel to bring children into homes that cannot afford them,” said one social media user. While some appreciate her willingness to encourage people to start families, many believe it’s not realistic to pressure people into becoming parents.

She’s also being seen as hypocritical for saying you can still have a career after having kids. For some, that’s easy for her to say, given she was in her mid-30s when having her first child. Before that, she had received an advanced degree.
