This year’s BravoCon got cut short for Below Deck star Fraser Olender. During Day 2, he revealed to fans that his chest felt tight, and he had trouble breathing. He wound up spending the rest of the weekend in an ER.
After BravoCon, he flew back to London and met with doctors and specialists to figure out what happened. He just shared their findings, and it turned out he suffered from something extremely serious.
Fraser Olender got vape poisoning, and could have died
Weeks after being rushed to the ER at BravoCon, Fraser opened up about what he learned from the doctors. He shared their findings in an eye-opening Instagram post, along with photos showing his time recovering in the hospital. Of course, his new boyfriend, Matt Rogers, was by his side through the whole ordeal.
“A few weeks ago I was rushed to hospital due to severe chest pains and difficulties breathing. Following this, I spent a week in London hospitals seeing specialists to identify the cause and possible damage of the incident.” Fraser began.
“To keep it simple – I had vape poisoning, (an E-cigarette or Vaping-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI)) and I have never experienced fear or pain like it,” he revealed.
According to Fraser, something in his vape caused him to have a coronary artery vasospasm. That reduced the blood flow to his heart, and it caused him to have a heart attack. He explained that his heart wasn’t getting enough oxygen during the vape-induced spasm.
“I’m grateful to still be recovering now, and I’m sharing this because I never realised something like this could happen,” Fraser explained.
Now, Fraser is using this health scare as a learning lesson. He’s hoping his experience can be a cautionary tale for other people who vape. He thinks it’s time for everyone to throw their vapes into the garbage.
He said, “I could have died for the sake of something so ridiculously stupid, so please do yourselves a favour and give it up too – cold turkey. We do not know enough about these horrific things but I can tell you one thing; that was NOT cute, not even for the plot.”
