Another holiday season is nearing, and Prince Harry is reportedly in a dilemma about where to celebrate Christmas. While Christmas in the UK was all about family traditions and long–held routines at Sandringham, Harry’s life in California now revolves around creating new memories with Meghan Markle and their young children. A royal expert claims this mix of old and new leaves the Duke of Sussex with complicated emotions as the holiday approaches.
Prince Harry’s family life in California could make desire for Royal Christmas fade — expert
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond spoke to The Mirror and explained why Christmas can stir up mixed feelings for Prince Harry. Bond said, “He’s on record as saying he misses elements of his UK life, including the banter, pub culture, friends, and family gatherings.” She added that seeing photos of the royal family walking to church at Sandringham could tug at him.
However, she noted, “When he’s enjoying Christmas in the warm Californian sunshine, with his wife, children and mother-in-law, the attraction of an often grey, damp Norfolk might fade a little.”
Harry and Markle plan to spend the holidays in Montecito with Doria Ragland. Their focus remains on giving Archie and Lilibet a relaxed and happy Christmas, away from the formality of royal traditions. Bond stated she would not expect Harry to trade that for a return to Sandringham, even if he is nostalgic.
Through Netflix’s “With Love Holiday Special,” Markle talked about the small details that make the holidays meaningful for their family. Her emphasis on togetherness comes at a time when Harry’s relationship with his family remains tainted, especially with Prince William, who will spend Christmas in Sandringham with Kate Middleton and their children.
Bond believes King Charles likely feels the absence of his younger son and grandchildren at this time of year, calling it a lingering sadness for the monarch. Even so, she pointed out that Prince Harry seems settled into his American Christmas routine now.
