Talk show host Stephen Colbert may be open to a political future after The Late Show. He has hosted the show for the last 10 years.
This past July, Stephen announced that the network would be ending his talk show. CBS called it a “purely financial decision,” but there is speculation it’s due to Paramount’s settlement with President Trump.
Stephen Colbert needs a new job when his show ends in May

Stephen discussed the possibility of a political future on a December 18 appearance at Slate’s Political Gabfest event, according to People. Listeners often asked the question, so the event hosts John Dickerson, Emily Bazelon and David Plotz threw it to Stephen. He responded jokingly, “Absolutely, I should not run for president. I understand why you’d want me to. I’d have to discuss with my faith leader and my family to see if, once my service on The Late Show ends in May, if I could be of some greater service to this nation that I love so much.”
The talk show titan showed John, who was replaced at CBS Evening News that day, some love at the event. After David introduced John, Stephen came over to him with a big hug. He then made a gesture, throwing his middle finger in the air while facing the audience. Many assumed this was in response to CBS canceling his show, which the network announced in July.
“It is self-evident that that is damaging to the reputation of the network, the corporation and the news division, so it is unclear to me why anyone would do that other than to curry favor with a single individual,” Stephen commented in a GQ interview last November.
