There is nothing better than kicking back, chilling for a couple of hours, and enjoying a Christmas movie. Naturally, one of the best and funniest Christmas movies is Elf, starring funny man Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. It always makes the list for favorite holiday movies, and it’s no wonder.
This feel-good Christmas classic follows Buddy, a human who was adopted by Santa’s elves. One day, he decided to search for his biological dad and hit up New York City. It was a whole new world for him, especially when he met department store elf, Jovie.
Katie Holmes was offered a role in Elf, says Zooey Deschanel
Recently, Zooey was a guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast and opened up about how the role of Jovie was almost played by a well-known actress. “When I met with Jon Favreau, the director, I walked in, and he was like, ‘Oh, you don’t need to read. We just offered it to Katie Holmes.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, OK, cool,’” Zooey explained. “And he’s like, ‘Well, sit down and talk for a minute.’ I was like, ‘OK!’”
She continued, “What was great about that was, I wasn’t nervous. I wasn’t nervous at all, because I was like, ‘Well, I’m not getting the part.’ It was kind of great cause I was not nervous.”
The stars aligned later on, and when Katie exited the project due to a scheduling conflict, Zooey nabbed the role. “And then they were like, ‘Who should we have?’ I think the character was kind of meant to be worked around whoever played her, and they knew I sang because I had a cabaret act, so that kind of worked out with the character,” the actress stated.
We love a celebrity who adores Bravo, and Zooey went all in with last year’s Halloween costume, saluting Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Angie Katsanevas. Meanwhile, Will’s fans will have to wait a bit for his next project, as he was sadly sidelined with an injury.
