Sister Wives Star Janelle Brown Talks Shock Marriage to Meri’s Brother

If there’s one thing about Kody Brown, he brought a lot of people together. After being in a relationship with four different women at one time, the infamous Sister Wives built a unique connection with each other.

For years it was assumed that the wives didn’t know each other prior to their marriages to Kody. That they just became family based on their Kody connection. However, former wives Janelle Brown and Meri Brown just revealed that the connection they have goes farther back than Kody. In fact, they were actually family members beforehand.

Janelle and Meri Brown were sisters-in-law “before we were Sister Wives”

In Season 20, Episode 15, Meri dropped the major confession. Specifically, she revealed that, “Janelle and I were actually sisters-in-law before we were sister wives.”

That’s right. Janelle explained that she was in a brief marriage with Adam Barber, Meri’s late brother who died in 2023.

“I met Meri’s brother when I was a senior in high school and we got married about a year to a year and a half or so after I graduated. It was very short. We were married for less than a year,” she shared in the episode.

Meri admitted that the change of her relationship with Janelle was challenging to navigate. After all, she watched a woman marry her brother and divorce him, then marry her husband.

“It was a tough thing to wrap my head around on multiple levels just because she had been married to my brother, you know? And so it was definitely a thing for me, for sure.”

This would explain all of the ups and downs they’ve had in their friendship.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10/9c on TLC.
