The Valley: Persian Style has finally landed on Bravo. We are only two episodes in. But already, we can see the first cracks lurking within Mercedes “MJ” Javid and Tommy Feight’s marriage.
In Episode 2, MJ’s mother tried to play cupid for her daughter, who shares a 6-year-old son with Tommy. However, her efforts failed. As Tommy responded, if MJ wasn’t happy in their marriage, well, then she could easily file for a divorce. As fans know, his comment didn’t exactly age well.
Last October, MJ filed for divorce. And during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, MJ offered an update on what led to her decision.
MJ hit her breaking point on July 4
After Episodes 1 and 2 of The Valley: Persian Style dropped, MJ appeared on WWHL. Naturally, the topic of her split from Tommy came up. As MJ thankfully noted, she and Tommy are now “in a really good place.”
“We talk every day, of course, and I mean multiple times,” MJ revealed, adding, “I think the quality of our relationship is more authentic. That was the year of the snake, and now it’s the horse, and so we shed what didn’t make sense about the relationship.” Likewise, their co-parenting situation is going “really well,” MJ shared.
Then, when pressed about whether there was “a specific moment or incident that made [MJ] realize [that her] marriage was over,” she noted one particular date as their downfall. “I felt like on the Fourth of July, I might have hit my last straw. We had been done [filming] but … I’ve lived in a lot of disappointment and heartbreak over the years, and it stopped making sense,” she explained.
MJ further clarified that Tommy’s inappropriate language around their son was not a factor. Her mother’s oftentimes tense relationships with the pair weren’t either.
