Mercedes “MJ” Javid of The Valley: Persian Style is doing her best to keep her divorce friendly. She and husband Tommy Feight filed for divorce last year and have come to terms pretty quickly on important matters. Now, she’s hoping it remains smooth sailing between them as they co-parent their son.
MJ called her ongoing divorce “one of the most friendly separations
MJ spoke with both US Weekly and Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen ahead of the premiere of The Valley: Persian Style. She spoke about her current situation with Tommy and how they are in a really good place.
“I think it’s, like, one of the most friendly separations. Knock on wood,” MJ shared. “Tommy and I are in a really good place. We talk every day. I think the quality of our relationship is more authentic.”
The former Shahs of Sunset star filed for divorce in October after seven years of marriage. Fans have seen all their relationship ups and downs on the show. They watched them eventually wed and have their beloved son, Shams. MJ admitted that he is their priority now.
“Shams gets the best of both of us,” MJ explained. “He sees us both all the time. By design, we are still one family. What I’m trying to do with Shams is just explain that we are still together in every way that matters to our son, like games, holidays, dinners, multiple times a week.”
She and Tommy reached a custody agreement last December after a very short-lived custody battle (for reality TV standards). They remain physically close to make it easier to shuttle back and forth, and MJ said they speak on a daily basis.
Over the holidays, Tommy even invited MJ’s mom, Vida Javid, to participate in the festivities.
“It was his choice to include my mom in inviting her over for dinner, and that was really nice,” MJ said. “We’re figuring it out, and we have a lot of brand new emotions, but I’m really proud of us.”
