Meghan Markle Faces Backlash After Makeup-Free Magazine Cover, for Some Reason

Meghan Markle has, sadly, not had an easy ride when it comes to her life in the public eye. Since marrying Prince Harry, she’s been at the center of criticism and controversy from almost every angle, be that her relationship or her Netflix TV deal.

While the hatred towards Meghan is always completely unjustified – after all, she’s never actually done anything wrong! – the latest pile-on about her decision to go makeup-free for a magazine shoot is genuinely absurd.

Meghan Markle gets hate for something many others are applauded for

For her recent Harper’s Bazaar cover story, the Duchess of Sussex went makeup-free. We (and many others) think she looked absolutely stunning, but not everyone on the internet has agreed.

“Even Meghan trying to appear authentic is something she fails at,” someone said in a forum, per OK Magazine. “It just seemed to try too hard, like she was trying to shout about her authenticity by going make-up free.”

“The difference between her parading a ‘make-up free’ face and the rest of the world’s women is that they don’t have a team of the world’s top stylists and skin specialists and photographers helping her flaunt it,” another critic said.

These comments are a stark contrast to the ones we read when other celebrities go makeup-free. Take Pamela Anderson, for example. She often goes bare-faced to fashion shows and film premieres and is always celebrated for it.

Other celebrities doing exactly that and receiving nothing but praise include Alicia Keys, Kate Winslet, Ashley Graham, and many more. Why, then, is Meghan not given the same grace?

“If going makeup-free is now something she gets criticized for, it shows how impossible the standards are,” a close source told OK Magazine of the backlash. “At this point, Meghan can seem to do nothing right. Whatever she does is read through a hostile lens.”
