One of VH1’s prized shows is Basketball Wives. With knockout drama, chaotic relationships, and exciting spinoffs, it was nothing short of iconic.
For the past 15 years, the series has been a staple on television, spearheaded by its creator and star Shaunie Henderson. Speaking of Shaunie, she just gave an update to fans regarding the show. And no, it’s not one that they are hoping for.
Shaunie Henderson announced that Basketball Wives is over on Instagram
Shaunie just took to social media and revealed that after 12 seasons, the series is taking a bow.
“This is just called growth and, you know, moving forward. I’m announcing today that Basketball Wives will not be returning,” she explained in her January 29 IG reel.
But don’t get too upset, because Shaunie wants everyone to know that she’s not done creating just yet.
“While this journey is concluding, I’m actively developing new projects that align with my personal and professional purpose. Continuing to create meaningful opportunities for women across media and business.”
It’s not ideal, but the decision to stop Basketball Wives may be for the best. After all, Season 12 didn’t exactly end well. Co-stars and mother-daughter duo Jackie Christie and Chantel Christie got into a physical fight on-screen. And as two major castmembers, who can’t stand each other, bringing them back together would’ve been a bad idea.
Not to mention, the controversial history among alums of the show has given the series quite the negative stain. Brittish Williams is currently serving time in prison for bank and wire fraud. Royce Reed also made headlines, with her case involving alleged child neglect when her son was 14-years-old.
Basketball Wives is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
