On December 28, 2025, Jill Biden’s ex-husband Bill Stevenson called the police following a domestic dispute with his wife Linda. When police arrived, they found his wife unresponsive in the living room of their Delaware home.
Though first responders tried to revive her, she was pronounced dead.

One month after Linda Stevenson’s tragic death, her husband Bill has been arrested. Following an autopsy by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, the authorities apparently have enough evidence to charge him.
Jill’s ex has been charged with first-degree murder, with a cash bail of $500,000. After being unable to post bail on February 2, Bill was reportedly booked into the Howard Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington, Delaware.
The former First Lady met Bill while she was a college student. The couple married in 1974, but were only married a short time, separating after just a year of marriage.
The relationship between Jill and her first husband reportedly became rocky when Bill purchased a college bar near the University of Delaware campus. Apparently, Jill thought, as his wife, she should be co-owner of The Stone Balloon, but it never happened.
Following a fight with her then-husband, Jill moved out in late 1974. Their divorce was finalized in 1975, the same year she met then-Senator Joe Biden. She and Joe married in 1977.
Over the years, Jill has repeatedly denied ever having had an affair with Joe while she was still married. “Jill Biden separated from her first husband irreconcilably in the fall of 1974 and moved out of their marital home,” a 2019 statement confirmed. “Joe and Jill Biden had their first date in March of 1975, and they married in June of 1977 … These claims [of infidelity on Jill’s part] are fictitious, seemingly to sell and promote a book.”
Even though they’ve been divorced for over 50 years, it’s possible that Jill could be brought in to testify as to her ex-husband’s character.
