Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 was pure chaos and Elena “Ellie” Dubaich had a lot to do with it. Coming back from the seventh season, she had a chip on co-star Bri Muller for her lack of experience. To make matters worse, she and Bri were entwined in a dramatic love triangle with Joe Bradley. Episodes focused so much on the two girls bickering that it was a shock that they weren’t fired.
Needless to say, Elena was quite the difficult stew, which makes it a surprise to see her on Bravo again. She’s currently the Sous Chef in Season 4 of Below Deck Down Under. And, before fans can lash out at Captain Jason Chambers for choosing her, he has a strong defense.
Elena “Ellie” Dubaich joins the BDDU Season 4 cast

In a recent interview, Captain Jason reflected on his decision to bring Elena back into the Below Deck franchise. According to him, after growing from her tense previous season, she was eager for a chance at redemption.
“She wanted to be part of the season, and she wanted to be part of the boat. When I needed her to change to the galley, she even said, ‘I’ll do anything for working in the season,’. So, look, to me, that was just like, OK, she really wants to put a hundred percent in. That’s someone that we can work with,” he told Bravo’s The Daily Dish.
Captain Jason also pointed out the obvious other plus with Elena, which is her comfortability working on-screen.
“It’s hard to find crew that understands the logistics around filming. It’s probably the hardest I’ve ever worked, too. So, when Ellie comes up as a stewardess, well, it’s an easy fit.”
It’s too early in the season to determine if she really has changed. Only time will tell if she can redeem herself.
Below Deck Down Under continues Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock.
